Get your pen ready and mark this in your calendar:
“A Call to Freedom, A Call to Action.”
That’s right. It’s one thing to scroll through our Palate blog posts and digest human-trafficking facts. It’s another thing to attend an event that arms you with in-depth education on how to fight human trafficking in the community.
Where is This Thing?
The Sanford Civic Center is located at 401 East Seminole Blvd., Sanford, FL 32771.
What’s the Purpose?
To spark a human-trafficking awareness campaign throughout all Central Florida counties. Adults and young people will learn about how traffickers target their victims and will be equipped to keep their communities safe.
What’s Our Goal?
To educate students, parents, educators, and community members on what human trafficking is, how perpetrators groom their victims, how parents can protect their children, and how we can work to keep our community safe.
What This Day Will Look Like
9:30-11:00 a.m. Palate in a Box!
Breakfast items and coffee from Palate Coffee Brewery will be available for purchase. (Of course, all proceeds go to fight human trafficking.)
10:00-10:30 a.m. Registration & Exhibition
Learn about various community organizations that work to end human trafficking.
10:30-11:00 a.m. Introduction
Learn about why awareness education is crucial in Central Florida. (Hint, hint: Florida is ranked as the state with the third highest human-trafficking cases reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, according to a 2018 report.)
11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Learning Labs
This is where the fun begins. Every twenty minutes within the hour, you will gain insight to human trafficking from multiple presentations.
12:00-12:30 p.m. Lunch
Food will be available for purchase. You can also peruse the exhibition of anti-trafficking organizations in the community.
12:30-1:30 p.m. Learning Labs
Back to the learning! Enjoy new presentations every twenty minutes.
1:30-1:50 p.m. Expert Panel Q&A
Now it will be your turn to speak. Ask questions about human trafficking in areas as close as Seminole County, Volusia County, and Orange County.
1:50-2:00 p.m. Call to Action
This is arguably the most important part. Learn about the steps YOU can take to help end human trafficking in all areas of your influence, from where you work to where you live.
And that’s the day! Sounds straightforward, right?
RSVP on the Facebook event and stay tuned for more information. The event is free but registering now would be nice.
